Postal voting
What you need
- Be a citizen with permanent residence in the Czech Republic
- A verified citizen identity for logging into the Citizen Portal
- A personal data mailbox connected to the Citizen Portal
- Be registered in the special voter list (application no later than 40 days before the election)
How to do it
There are several ways to submit your application on the Citizen Portal. It always depends on whether you are registered in the special voter list and whether you have moved since the last election.
How to proceed if you are not registered in the special voter list
If you are abroad, want to vote by post, and are not yet registered in the special voter list, you need to complete the following steps:
1. Apply for registration in the special voter list on the Citizen Portal
- Log in to the Citizen Portal.
- Follow the instructions in the section “Registration in the special voter list”.
- Fill in the application and submit it by clicking “submit application”.
- Once processed, you will be added to the list maintained by the diplomatic mission responsible for your place of residence.
2. Apply for postal voting documents
- In the Citizen Portal, go to the section “Application for postal voting documents”.
- Fill in and submit the application.
- Once processed, the documents will be sent to the address you provide no later than 25 days before election day. The address must be within the territory covered by the diplomatic mission where you are registered in the special voter list and from which you are requesting postal voting. For example, if you are registered with the Consulate General in New York but currently staying in San Francisco, you can have the documents sent there even though it falls under a different consular district.
- After receiving the postal voting documents and printing the ballot papers, which will be available on the website of the Ministry of the Interior, you can vote by post.
